Amy Annis has been practicing yoga for over a decade…
Amy became a yoga instructor in 2003 while raising four children, understanding that her practice not only gave her balance in a hectic lifestyle but also spoke to her children about the connection of a healthy mind and body. Her teaching is influenced by a willingness to learn from all teachers and all styles of yoga. After a diagnosis and a yearlong battle with breast cancer in 2009, Amy was inspired to take her passion for yoga to the next level and enrolled in a teacher training program at The Yoga Center of Minneapolis. After completing her treatment program and building back strength through her own personal practice she founded Clean Spirit Yoga to return to her love of teaching.
As a registered yoga teacher (RYT-200) with The Yoga Alliance, Amy has experience working with both new and experienced practitioners. Her love for Madeline Island and the coresponding outdoor activities has led her to develop specific yoga trainings geared towards the performance athlete and outdoor enthusiasts. For most of the year Amy resides in Eau Claire, WI teaching yoga classes in her studio and works as a Livestrong Representative for the Eau Claire community.
Teaching yoga on the beach one morning Amy was inspired by how the beauty of the nature around her affected her sense of peace and internal connection. Realizing the harmonious balance of the outdoors and yoga provided an opportunity for a retreat business on Madeline. With her experience leading in both classroom and nature settings she developed her concept and Madeline Island Yoga Retreats was born.
Amy considers her biggest accomplishment her family life and her status as a breast cancer survivor. She and her husband Ted work together throughout the year raising their four children Teddy, Kathryn, Grace and Tess as well as managing their two dogs Fergus and Fiona. Amy also credits her parents to her love of the outdoors and her sense of a healthy lifestyle. Her father Tom was a marathon runner who practiced yoga before it was mainstream and her mother Mary is retired from the health care community and is an avid organic gardener. Amy carries many of those healthy living principals through her work in teaching yoga and leading retreats for women looking for opportunities to kickstart a healthier life.
With a great support system of fantastic guides and businesses prepared to offer women an island zen experience, Madeline Island Yoga Retreats looks forward to helping you prepare for your next retreat. Email amy@cleanspirityoga.com with any questions today.
