Artists will tell you that when they take the time to quiet their mind and begin to create something artistic, it is a incredible feeling of
connectedness.  Yogis refer to this experience as bliss.  Both come from a place where you can quiet your mind and let your soul take shape from within you.  Yoga is most often thought of as finding ease within the body and in opening yourself up you are more likely to harness creative expression.

Our Yoga and Art retreat is a blend of two disciplines that are uniquely intertwined in this retreat.  Mornings will be spent developing your yoga practice and afternoons will center around an art focus.  The magic of this retreat lies in the little moments that will delight you as we engage you in opportunities to help you discover  your best creative self.  We believe that Madeline Island is the perfect backdrop to nourish you mind and body.

Our art leader Lynnae Haerle Burns is an artist living in La Crosse, Wisconsin. She has been teaching art to middle school students for the past 17 years.

Lynnae studied art at the Universities of Eau Claire and La Crosse and received her Masters in Education from UW-La Crosse. She is the director of the Lincoln Middle School Art Gallery where she currently teaches.

Her love of nature, mixed-media, print-making, photography and nature influences her work in a visual journalistic process.  She infuses this love of art and photography on her blog Daily Art Enrichments.

VISUAL SKETCHBOOK JOURNALING

Beyond every obstacle lies an opportunity.....

In this artist workshop you will begin a journey in your sketchbook in a way you may not be used to working. Using personal images, text, painting and drawing you will be encouraged to transform your sketchbook into a work of art as a personal journey. A visual journal sketchbook is a way to express your inner voice through personal observations, and your past experiences. The artist within you, is a storyteller just waiting to unleash a journey using the universal visual language of lines, shapes, and colors.

Before packing your art supplies for this adventure of journal art spilling, you will need to bring a sketchbook with “prepared” pages to get journaling when you arrive. This will ensure you will be able to plunge right in with a variety of art media methods and techniques to get your creative juices flowing upon on the pages. You will be encouraged to journal in your sketchbook with what ever media you love most. Paint, pen, pencil, ink, and collage. Your sketchbook journal may be strategically planned out or be about your experience as you go through your daily revelations and the beauty of the Island when you engage in your Yoga/Art retreat.

I enjoy the process of collaborating with other artists, so, at the end of the workshop I will invite you to participate in a ‘round-robin’ sketchbook collaboration. We will each pass forward a Moleskine sketchbook after completing a work of art, to the round-robin participants. At the end the process, you will have the original sketchbook you started with a unique art collection from each of the artists from the retreat. As the ‘skines are filling and you are spilling, it is my hope to document and share the images on my blog which I will specially design in celebration of our journeys of art spill. Join us in a creative art journal spilling process as you unleash the newest marks of your visual story.
